2009 Yamaha XT250 Serow Trail Enduro Bike
The Yamaha XT Serow has been a favorite among trail-riders for many years. For young riders or those small in stature the Yamaha XT250 Serow has been a reliable and forgiving machine with a big reputation. The mighty XT was never about being a scorching enduro weapon yet it's still made a name for itself and, with the demand worldwide for trail machine still high, Yamaha set about making the Yamaha XT250 better then ever before. The air-cooled four-stroke engine has been beefed up from 223cc to 249cc which delivers an extra five horsepower. That might not sound like a great deal to some of you, but with just 21 horses to your name you get to appreciate even the slightest power increases. Other obvious improvements to the Yamaha XT250 Serow include a new color scheme, new rear disc brake to replace the old and outdated drum brake and increased fuel capacity to 10 liters. Further updates that prove harder to spot at t first glance are the new 33mm vacuum carburetor, new semi-crade frame and new front and rear suspension. There's also a new tubeless rear tire and more ground clearance. While the more serious rider might look at the Yamaha XT250 as little more than a glorified bike, you can't deny the fact the Yamaha XT250 would be ideal for city traffic and some basic trail-riding. The low 810mm seat height and 123kg claimed dry weight of the Yamaha XT250 make it manageable for just about anyone. The outright power of the 250cc is never going to win any drag races but it will take you anywhere a bigger bike will go and it'll keep on going and going. The air-cooled four-stroke engine has a big reputation as a long-term stayer that requires little maintenance to keep happy, goes a long way for an inexperienced rider and is easy on the budget, too. |
2009 model Yamaha YZF-R1
One of the most highly anticipated unveilings of the year has proven worth the wait. The new Yamaha YZF-R1 is packed with trickle down race technology, and at the heart of the totally new Yamaha YZF-R1 is a truly unique engine. Yamaha looks to turn the liter bike class upside down with this 2009 Yamaha R1 Call the new engine's uneven firing interval revolutionary and groundbreaking and you'd be right â we've seen it in the past, but never on a street legal motorcycle... The engine's crossplane crankshaft doesn't tick over like a standard inline four cylinder motor. Traditionally, an inline four cylinder's firing order offers one bang per 180 degree turn of the crank, but the new 2009 Yamaha YZF-R1 fires differently. It's staggered in a 270-180-9000-180 degree order. Yamaha claims this all but eliminates undesirable inertial crankshaft torque, which allows the engine's compression torque to build smoothly and provide linear power delivery. Could the Yamaha YZF-R1 2009 be the best of both world? The torquey bottom end of a twin matched with a screaming, high-rev powerband of an inline four? That's the idea, and it's exactly how the Yamaha M1 MotoGP motor functions â and it seems to do just fine. Helping the new motor exhale is an all-new exhaust system, and though perhaps a bit unsightly it certainly sounds impressive. Chances are high that you'll want to replace it with an aftermarket pipe though, and hopefully there will be a few options when the Yamaha YZF-R1 hits showroom floors. Increased rigidity is one of the benefits of the new frame, but more interesting to the chassis updates are the front forks. The SOQI forks are similar to the MotoGP racer in that compression damping is controlled with the left fork while the right leg does the rebound damping duties. This used to be a designed relegated to budget motorcycle suspensions, but apparently Yamaha has found a way to make it work for the Yamaha YZF-R1. And once again, if it works on the Yamaha M1 MotoGP bike. |
Second hand YZF-R1
he Yamaha YZF-R1, what is it? Basically I would call it big power in a small bike. The first Yamaha YZF-R1 in 1998 was explosive, savage and utterly uncompromising. By 2004 it was ripe for an overhaul: underseat exhaust system, angular bodywork and a claimed 180 horsepower at the rear wheel. In reality, it was within sniffing distance of 150 horses pushing the Yamaha R1, but who is counting. The Yamaha YZF-R1 is build around an 998cc displacement engine. Over the last 10 years the engine of the Yamaha YZF-R1 did see ?some changes, the early models where 20 valve, DOHC, liquid-cooled Parallel 4-cylinder engine. It produces a compression ratio of 11.8:1, with a 74mm bore and 58mm Stroke. Equipped with 4 Mikuni CV downdraft BDSR40 carburetors. This specifications changed for the 2006 model of the Yamaha YZF-R1, the cylinder compression ratio went up to 12.4:1and respectively the Bore x Stroke changed to 77mm x 53.6mm. Also the fuel system changed of the Yamaha R1 it was now equipped with Fuel injection, dual-valve throttle bodies with motor-driven secondary valves Fuel Injection with YCC-T and YCC-I Compression Ratio. Some of this specs changed again in the 2007/2008 models. If you are considering buying a secondhand Yamaha YZF-R1 you should realize that it is basically a bike with a hooligan nature, by 2004 it has been given a slightly more practical, but not less exciting, edge, bringing better road manners by suspension improvements. In other words, it's a sports missile you can live with. For the bigger boys, the Yamaha YZF-R1 has more legroom than rival 1000s and it makes a big difference to distance comfort |
